Harry writes and performs in The Night That Made America Famous on Broadway as Howie Fields and Doug Walker join the band. Ron Palmer leaves the band. Portrait Gallery is released. Chapin also co-founded World Hunger Year with Bill Ayres.
Tom starts his fifth and final year of hosting of Make a Wish.

- 3 - Chapin performed at Vassar College, the performance was interrupted by a bomb threat. In classic Chapin style, he finished the concert on the steps outside the hall.[1][2]
- 26 - The Night That Made America Famous musical opened on Broadway.

- 31 - Chicago, IL, concert was the first for the new band lineup including Howard Fields and Doug Walker.

- 6 - The Night That Made America Famous musical closes after 75 shows.
